Men’s Soccer Kicks off season at the JUCO Midwest Kickoff Classic
Men's soccer starts the season strong in the Midwest Kickoff Classic
Sioux City, Iowa – The JUCO Midwest Kickoff Classic, held August 22–24, 2025, in Westfield, Indiana, brought together 12 teams from across the country – each either ranked or receiving votes. Among them was the Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) men’s soccer team, ready to make their mark in just its third season. The Comets entered the showcase ready for the valuable experience and eager to prove themselves ahead of the regular season.
In game one on August 22, the Comets faced No. 11 Heartland Community College - a challenge they met with grit and determination. Goals from Charlie Eastwood (penalty kick) and Aidan McCracken secured a 2–0 shutout.
Two days later, on August 24, the Comets battled No. 13 Jones College in an intensely physical match. A single unanswered goal by Luis Valverde sealed the result, and WITCC returned home with two shutout wins over nationally ranked opponents - a proud achievement for a young program.
“We had good results, but we’re far from a finished product,” said Head Coach Alex Scheuler at the end of the weekend. “We made lots of mistakes that we’ll have to clean up as we move forward, with many talented teams still on the schedule. I’m happy with where we are, but definitely not satisfied.”
This week, the WITCC men’s soccer team travels to East Central College and then to Neosho County Community College before returning for the first home game of the season on Wednesday, September 3, at 5 p.m. The new Comets Field on the Western Iowa Tech Community College campus in Sioux City will host all men’s and women’s soccer home games. We invite you to come cheer on the Comets as they take on Southeast Community College.
Admission is free and the public is welcome.
